no more brain juice left!

it was a very tiring day today!
i had three very heavy lectures back to back.
and i'm going to drown in my readings for next week.
Deuteronomy 5-6, 15-17
1 Samuel 8
2 Samuel 11-12
Isaiah 1-2
Amos 7
Matthew 1-5
1 Thessalonians
2 Thessalonians
1 Peter
2 Peter
NO, i am not reading these chapters of the Bible for my devotion. haha.
i actually have to read them for a history class next week.
we will be talking about Ancient Israel/ Christianity and Writing/ Vernacular Bible Translation and the Rise of Lay Literacy.
but besides the bible, i have many other readings to do. just for this ONE module. it's more than 10 readings from various philosophers like Plato and Thucydides.
the content sure is interesting!
but the reading KILLS.
and this class is a level 800 module. in NUS terms.. it's like LEVEL 8000.
there are lots of graduate students and they are really Brainy.
not nerdy brainy.
cool brainy.
if i was REALLY SMART, i would probably write a book called
THE BIBLE- TRANSPARENCY and JOURNALISM.
hahaha.
i think the bible teaches us and gives us many insights to the way journalists can hold on to their ethics and write in a way that edifies.
let me share with you what i've been studying about David and Bathsheba. 2 Samuel 11-12.
So my professor calls Bathsheba the "MAJOR BABE" hahahaha.
and King David saw a MAJOR BABE, and fell in love with her.
but she was already married, to Uriah the Hittite.
things became complicated when Major Babe got pregnant.
so King David had to call her husband back from the war on the pretext that he had a message for him. and in hopes that he would spend the night with Major Babe. so when the baby is born, King David can hide behind his sin!
but Uriah the Hittite did not do that.
he said, " How could i go to my house to eat and drink and lie with my wife?" when all his men were in the battlefield.
Now, this was a double insult to King David.
he was doing exactly the same things.
staying back-not fighting the war.
laying with Someone else's Wife!
But this is what happens in vs 14-15
In the morning David wrote a letter to Joab and sent it with Uriah. In it he wrote, "Put Uriah in the front line where the fighting is fiercest. Then withdraw from him so he will be struck down and die."
which means, Uriah was taking back a letter which were actually orders to have him killed.
this is an example of how those in power also had the power of communication.
see the link?
and this is a trap that many journalists fall into these days.
if you hold the power of communication, will you take advantage of it?
but the biggest QUESTION is this.
Usually, Kings try to cover up their mistakes in historical accounts. this is seen in the Egyptian and even Greek accounts. Why is this grave mistake of King David published in the Bible? why wasn't it covered up? why was it revealed?
if you do not think about the biblical aspects of it, and just think about it in a historical point of view, you would realize that the bible advocates Transparency.
tah-dah.
simple as that. the bible goes on to show how the Prophet Nathan rebukes David. there is a similar account in the book of Amos.
journalism must be based on transparency.
not propaganda.
the bible says so!
very interesting eh? :)
now you know why my brain is so tired!
i will have more stuff coming out about the history of israel.
i learnt how to draw the original map of Israel today, before all the wars. haha.
we went to newbury street to look around today since it was our first day of chinese new year.
check out my eye bags in the first photo!
ARGHHHH. :(
