sunday-a time for reflections
today is a sunday! and it felt weird not being able to go for youth service. boo hoo hoo.so the day started out black and white.
but on my way to church, it was actually a nice drive down the outskirts of Boston with loads of pretty scenery. i slept late last night because Hooray i watched a webcast of last week's service. :) MAN, it was such a homely feeling to hear Pastor Melvyn say "GOD BLESS YOU!" hahahahaha. so i want to share my take aways from his sermon. yayy. :)and so the sun begins to rise...
what impacted me the most was the idea of making decisions using situational ethics and not using God's perspectives. i think many people, including myself fall into such temptations many times. i felt that this spoke to me alot yesterday! i believe that being here in Boston would open many doors to such temptations because there's no one here that i have to be directly accountable to. growing up in fcbc, we know how "strict" and sometimes we call it "restraining" when we are prevented from doing things our way. But i think that those trainings have made my feet stand rooted in God's word even more and taught me to always put God in the center. it was a really good sermon for me.
so i visited this church called HighRock today with my korean american roomie. Oh, her name's kristin! have i already introduced her? it's one of my first times being in such a tiny church with only about 400 people but it was such a vibrant church that it made me feel quite at home. the church's population was made up largely of koreans and japanese YAYY! while it is not charismatic, it was an evangelical something something church. i enjoyed worship. i was so happy that i could sing along to similar songs by Chris Tomlin and Paul Baloche. but the most amazing thing about the worship team was that they had really good worship leaders! their voices harmonized so well and ... ohhhh! there was a guy playing a saxophone. it was nice, i wish worship lasted longer.
the pastor who preached at the church today looked really young! our scripture passage was from Deuteronomy 8. He talked about the temptation of forgetting God during the bad times and i felt like this message was for me man! One amazing sentence that i caught from him was that many times "rather than God being the central provider of our lives, he is just an after thought." it's really true. coming to Boston was totally stepping out of my comfort zone. i kept asking things like "why did i come?" and "why was i so stupid to apply for SEP?"hmm and i forgot that when my acceptance package didn't arrive from Boston last semester, i was so panicky and frantic. I forgot about the favour the Lord showered upon me when i prayed and asked that he would open up the way for me to come to Boston. so the pastor mentioned that sometimes, God teaches us to trust in him using the hard way. Just like the Israelites and the case of the manna. They would collect more instead of listening to the word of God and collect just enough for the day, ending up with rotten and bad manna the next day. SO! i should stop worrying about what comes tomorrow. i should stop worrying about all my classes and i should stop worrying about whether i will be able to make friends. amen?
amen!
i did make friends. we all did. hahahaha. these are two other guys from Italy, also here at BU for the exchange programme. :) how, handsome anot? :P
i think i am coming to the conclusion that everyone's friendly except americans. HAHAHAHAHA.
and the guys were soooo GAY today.folding paper roses. oh man. they did all that!
